Chapter Eighteen

Just a quick Author note:

It was never supposed to take me this long to get this chapter out. But then again, I never write well – or at all when my personal life is unstable. I really believed last year when I hesitantly took writing back up, that I would get back in the groove of it, especially with Oliver (my youngest) now in school. But one bad doctor appointment sent my muse hiding and me into full mom mode, channeling my inner mob boss as I fought insurance companies and red tape to figure out what was causing Peyton’s episodes and illnesses. Followed by going back to work and all the life adjustments the world has thrown at me the last few years.

There were a few months in the past year that I thought I was going to have to put away my dreams of writing for good. Luckily for all of us that doesn’t seem to be the case. I’ve made it my goal to finish up There Goes My Life, so I can focus on my original works.

Thank you to all of you that have stuck with me, the biggest of thank you goes to Fran for beta’ing these words for me.

The words are finally coming back to me.

I’m piecing together a story. I’m trying to get brave enough to return to our stories. I’ve been reworking I Want A Mommy into something possibly publishable. It’s almost Christmas time and money is tight my heart hurts.

I just want to fucking talk to you, to feel the relief I used to get from the sound of your voice. I’m so tired of feeling like I have to do everything on my own. I feel like I’m failing – every choice I make is the wrong one. I don’t know how I am going to do Christmas this year. We our savings is drained from Peyton’s medical trips to Wichita to see his neurologist and all the funerals.

The last year and half have been hard. So, fucking hard. I need a break or a miracle or a puppy to wander into my backyard.

I normally would never do this but this… but this year, the flu and having a new baby, Oliver James in the house. I haven’t been able to help my daughter as much as I normally would. Cookie Season is this kids joy! She works hard and has developed many good life skills, especially social skills.

Spring break was crazy busy. I took the kids on a 1,000-mile drive up to my Mom’s. We had some much-needed fun with her. I ended the trip with a nasty cold, spent a week in bed and now I’m up and feeling better.
